Frequently Asked Questions

About Islam

Islam is the Arabic word for submission or surrender — specifically, submission to the will of God (Allah). Islam is a monotheistic Abrahamic religion revealed through the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as the final and complete message to humanity. Muslims believe in one God, follow the Qur'an as the word of God, and follow the example of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Allah is the Arabic word for God — the one, unique, eternal Creator of all things. It is the same God worshipped by Abraham, Moses and Jesus (peace be upon them all). Allah has no partners, no children and is unlike anything in creation. Muslims worship Allah directly without any intermediary.

New Muslims

No. Your faith is between you and Allah. Many new Muslims take time to share their decision with family and friends. There is no requirement to announce it publicly. Take your time and seek advice from Muslims you trust.

Salah

Muslims pray five times each day: Fajr (before sunrise), Dhuhr (midday), Asr (afternoon), Maghrib (after sunset) and Isha (night). These prayers are the second pillar of Islam.
